Diet and nutrition / Breaking sugar addiction

Well it took a while, but i've come to the conclusion that i'm addicted to sugar, bread, ect. Fruit and potatos dont set me off however...

But this addiction explains why eating healthy and reaching my goals has been so hard for me. I literally get depressed towards the end of my meals when i start getting full and i know they'll be no cookies lol. Now i know the depression means im doin it right.

I plan on having a sweet potato or two every night as going cold turkey sets you up for failure due to upregulation of seritonin transmitters. So besides that any tips for getting through this beast? The thought of being able to enjoy real healthy food and feeling great without cake is nice, but its not so easy when im geting full amd yet still feel "empty" in some way.

Diet and nutrition / Re: How'd your superbowl go?
« on: February 06, 2011, 09:41:12 PM »
I am glad the Superbowl, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter are only once a year.

yeah me too. I decided to use such holidays to eat a little cake or wheat-foods or whatever...but seriosuly my body is just not having it anymore and i just want much less of it. I'm pleasantly suprised. I WANT to feel funky after a piece of cake, as crazy as it may sound to most people eating the SAD. Its good for those times when social circumstances force me into dunkin dougnuts (for example) and instead of triggering binges i'm triggering stomache aches or nausea or just that slight "off" feeling

Speaking of that, people eating the SAD are starting to bug me, especially when im ribbed for not taking a slice of pizza at work or whatever...I don't ever preach to anyone about changing their eating habits for the better, while i'm constantly pressured to eat crap.

I feel like i'm overdoing it by eating so much delicous hamburgers though....but it feels so right lmao...what do you guys think wrong choice of meat?

I think the hamburger is so delicious because your body is telling you that's what you need!

I think what celticcavegirl is saying is to make a small roast, then use slices of that for lunch over several days.

Awsome! Ground beef it is then...i'll post another day or two up soon; one of my days off and one of my packed out work/school days.

Need a little more feedback but i think i got this....i just let myself go for a superbowl party and i now know what my body definatly DOESN'T want....

Food-wise i mean...mine was pretty bad actually lmao....but i sort of let myself go. It wasn't a binge really it was mostly to see how I would feel after eating "normally" compared to my new WOE.

Well 3 beers, a dounut, a canoli, 2-4 cookies, a few pieces of bread with butter, a plate of sausage n peppers and a small bowl of ice-cream later (on top of the paleo food i ate today) and I feel like absolute SHIT. I'm staring at all the deserts right now and I couldn't eat any of it right now if my life depended on it. I felt like I was at a halfway point between the SAD and this WOE, but now I see there's no turning back, which is good.

So even though tommorow morning's going to blow, at least I know i'm on the right track. I'm more inclined than ever to eat right. I can't wait till this time tommorow!

I'm sure most of you experienced...."paleoers"....did much better than me, and sure i coulda stuck to the taco dip and been okay, but i learned a valuable lesson this way....

How'd you guys do?

From now on i'll pack my own lunch. (any suggestions? more meat? hardboiled eggs are good might make those for tommorow)

fish and salad.  Or roast a small joint, and eat the leftovers for lunch for 2-3 days

eggs I see as supplementary rather than main meal food

I actually just decided to put down to weed until spring break. I wanna concentrate on school this semester and its hard eating healthy when weed is givin me the munchies when I shouldn't be hungry.

...jk...but what do you mean by "roast a small joint"?

On the plus side though, i notice that since I started eating this way even my cheats are healthy....either too many nuts or fruit or cottage cheese....it beats half a loaf of bread and chocolate filled cresants that don't even fill you up.

Alright today wasn't so hot because i ddin't plan it out good enough. I decided to ditch IF until i my body adjusts. Today i had

Woke up at 12 (late night last night)
12:30ish -3 scrambled eggs cooked in butter

1:30ish- a red pear

3:00- a handful of almonds

6:00- 4 90calorie cups of "LiveActiveCulture" breakstones cottage cheese....I work in dairy at stop and shop, was hungry, love cottage cheese, didnt plan out lunch, saw that they were gonna throw em out anyway so....it amounted to 20gs carbs total so i didnt see it as such a big deal. From now on i'll pack my own lunch. (any suggestions? more meat? hardboiled eggs are good might make those for tommorow)

9:00 I bought a little over a pound of ground beef and ate most of it cooked burger style in butter, leaving about enough for a big hamburger patty leftover. Now THATS where its at, im pretty satisfied and probably coulda stopped sooner. It was REALLY freakin good actually.

Along with that I had a bag of salad, and for desert a cup of blueberries

I feel like i'm overdoing it by eating so much delicous hamburgers though....but it feels so right lmao...what do you guys think wrong choice of meat?

Alright thanks for the advice guys. I'll post another food entry soon, either tonight or monday (idk how sundays gonna go.)

What kinda fatty meat should I be looking at, ground beef like for hamburgers? i had some of that the other day and it was fucking delicious and pretty satisfying.

Lamb also looked decently fatty. The more "marbled" it is the better, correct?

What about my acid/alkaline levels? Isn't all that meet too acidy? or will enough cooked veggies balance that out for me? Thinkin bout havin some hamburger meat with brocolli and spinach tonight...

And finally...when do you guys feel your body adjusted to using fats for fuels. I still feel kinda fatigued right now. Did you just wake up one morning feelin fly?

Also i know cheese isn't "paleo" but it doesn't bother me and i wanted to eat more fat instead of having to fill up on carbs.

Anyone follow IF or the warrior diet here? If you have any tips they'd be aprecciated  ;)

Well not really. I just need this journal to get the hang of eating paleo. I haven't had a non-paleo food in a few weeks now, but i'm not sure if I got it down correctly (as far as if im getting too much of this or too little of that. )

I'm 19, 5'3 and as of 2/1/2011 im 117lbs (with clothes on, idk if tht matters). I usually fluctuate between 115 and 120.

My goal is not so much to add bulky mass but to gain strength and speed and endurance and just be overall in great shape. I wanna pack on some lean muscle too.

I'm also a fan of IF, but that combined with my new weekly schedual AND my new diet it's a bit tricky for me, hence all the almonds i've been eating...

So...as for today:

Woke up at 6am

-Ate a largish green apple at 10am before work

-Ate a whole 6oz. can of almonds between 1pm-5pm (a little much i know, I might replace this with another apple on tuesdays/thurdays when i have full dyas of work and school)

-At 7pm I sliced up a small steak (i think about 1/ 3 of a pound) with four scrambled eggs and about alittle over a cup of brocolli. All cooked with a tbsp of coconut oil. I also put  1/4th of a cup of mild cheddar cheese on it.

With dinner i had some salad with black olives and olive oil/lemon. There was grilled chicken in the salad too (it was someone's leftover grilled chicken salad)

Cup of green tea

I might have a cup of decaf coffee with a tbsp of heavy cream in a lil...but thats it for today. I'll try to be more percise wiith the measuremants but i eyeballed it today and don't remeber exactly how much brocolli/steak i had

Diet and nutrition / whats wrong with cheese?
« on: February 01, 2011, 03:29:41 PM »
I understand you guys don't drink milk because of the sugars in it, but whats wrong with cheese? isn't it the same as butter/cream in that the sugars are removed? I know butter/cream/cheese arent the best fats but as someone who isn't lactose intolorent in anyway, why should i still avoid cheese? is it because it's too delicous of a fat? I'm serious, its easy to eat too much cheese, is that why you avoid it?

Exercises / Re: Need help with my weekly schedual...
« on: January 31, 2011, 10:49:56 AM »
Well i just ran a few of those circuts. I added in some dumbell squats and a minute on the treadmill every circut and i feel great. I used to work out like thise over the summer before i started eating healthy, i love it. I'm gonna look into more bodyweight excercises and challenge myself a little (one legged squats are tricky, i found im less balanced on my left leg. And beign able to do upsidedown shoulder presses would be awsome without the help of a wall)
