Progress Reports & Photos / First big goal almost reached :)
« on: September 06, 2013, 08:56:12 AM »
When I started Paleo a few shorts months ago (Mid-March 2013) I had bought 2 dresses at a close off sale 5$ each for my cousin's wedding. Both of them were really too small one event couldnít zip off to the top on the back! They were my incentive to getting healthier and I have been trying them on throughout my journey consistently seeing my body fitting into these :) What a great feeling when I was able to zip off the smaller one!!!

I did set a specific number of pounds that I wanted to shed before the wedding (I had chosen the wedding date because I leave far from my family and I wanted to surprise them by not telling anything about my new health regimen) the magical number I had in mind was 50 pounds. I was only 4 pounds away on the wedding day.

I must say I was very proud of myself as I was really close to the magical number but also because the smaller dress was now too big and I had to do some alterations on the top part so it could fit properly :) I went from 219 to 173 pounds by eating Paleo, doing the WII active2, 3 times a week in addition a few weeks ago I started jogging also 3 times a week.

Needless to say that the surprise for my family was big and caused a chain reaction. We had all rented rooms at the same hotel, when I came in the hallway in our reserved section my godmother looked at me and said, no way it can't be you, what have you done? Then I saw he doors opening and people coming out of their rooms having the same reaction, it took me forever to actually get to my room and get ready for the wedding. What a boost!!!

On the other side my health in general has improved so much, my thyroid meds have been lowered, my mind is clear, my depression symptoms are long gone and so is my recurrent yeast infection... YAYYYY!!!

Now, I need to set a new goal and a new time frame... I want to challenge myself and then again want to be realistic as I don't want to set myself for failure... Next step is to have my BF% taken so I can base my next goal on this instead of a number on the scale...

Iíll post the new goal to keep myself accountable ;)

Thanks for reading!

Exercises / Re: Soreness after Hiit and when to start training again...
« on: August 07, 2013, 06:44:06 PM »
Thank you very much everyone...

What I am doing right now is a big mix of everything, I do not have a fixed training schedule.

Most days I'll train with my WII active2 and free weights at home once the kids are in bed, or I'll do a HIIT during soccer practice. Some days I go for a jog/walk on my lunch hour.

I wish I was able to afford the Gym membership and babysitter everyday but this is not the case so I do my best with what I have...

This must be ok as I have lost 40 pounds since mid march and I must say that I am very happy with the results I am getting but would like to see more muscles :)

Need to be patient and buy more free weight for my home training ;)

Thank you Warren Dew,

I think I will do the squats and jumping jacks because I don't like being too long without training :)

Exercises / Soreness after Hiit and when to start training again...
« on: May 29, 2013, 09:49:40 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I've started doing HIIT in the field while my son is having his soccer practice, I thought that I should make good use of that down time :)

So I've done the following:

30 second intense doing as much rep as I possibly can and then 30 seconds of rest after a 5 minutes jog for warmup.

- Push ups
- rest
- Squats
- rest
- Push ups
- rest
- walking lunges
- rest
- Push ups
- rest
- Jumping jacks
- rest

Repeat the sequence for 15 minutes... I had shaky legs and arms after that, I know I am not in great shape but making progress, considering that I wasn't able to do a real push up 2 months ago :)

I've done it on Monday we are now Wednesday and the pain in my shoulders, chest and core is worse today than yesterday, is that normal?

I had a day of rest yesterday; should I do it again today even if the soreness is still there or should I wait until the soreness is gone so I don't elevate the cortisol levels?

Need your advice please ;)

Thanks a lot!

Diet and nutrition / Re: Eating enough or too much???

DON'T reduce your carbs - it can knacker out your adrenals and leave you hypothyroid which makes it impossible to lose more weight.  I would say get at least 50g carbs a day as a bare minimum.   I eat about 60-70g/day.  VLC might work for you - and by all means try it out - but for a lot of women, VLC really doesn't work and messes up the thyroid hormones (and menstrual cycle).  I would even consider adding a few more starchy veggies to some meals, like parsnips, carrots, rutabaga, butternut squash.  If you always keep your insulin very low, your body can think it's starving and then try as hard as it can to conserve the fat

You mentioned Hypothyroid, it is actually a condition that I have had for a long time now... I've decided to do the paleo lifestyle partly because of it... So if I get it right when I am lowering my carbs too much I am actually make it worst? I  guess I've been messing up with my body as I tried to get myself into ketosis for a better weight loss.

Also you mentioned VLC, does that mean very low calories or maybe carb?

Thank you both so much for your advice!

Hi everyone,

Since I've started paleo I have seen amaizing results in my general health with a nice side benefit of loosing 25 lbs and 12 inches overall.  Where my question comes from is I haven't seen any changes in the last 2 weeks and believe me I have a long road ahead of me for being slim and healthy ;)

So in an attenps to discove what I am doing wrong I've include below a typical day for you to give me pointers on whether I am eating too much or too little. I am 5' 6" and currently weigh 195 lbs. my fat is mostly located on my mid section and upper arms with strong lean legs. I am a single mom and manage to workout 4 times a week at home once the kids are asleep. We often go for bike ride and play in the yard after dinner and homework as well. My work out consist of doing the 6 weeks challenge on  my Wii active game I bought the other day, I have upgraded my elastic band to the heavier ones I could find in the sports store. The Wii system is telling me that I burn around 200 to 300 cals per training.

So here my intake from yesterday:

Breakfast 6:00 am
6 oz steak
3/4 cup mix of bell pepper, oignons and mushrooms
1 tbs of coconut oil
decaf coffee

Lunch 11:45 am
1 1/2 cup home made cream of vegetable made with coconut milk and coconut oil
2 slices of ham
green tea

Diner 5:30 pm
Chicken curry with brocoli oignons, green beans and (pousses de bambou) also made with coconut milk

After work out snack 9:00pm
usually none but I was hungry as hell last night si I had 1/2 banana with 2 tbs of almond butter

I am drinking at least 2 l of water a day

on other days it  can be like this:

2-3 eggs with 3 slices of nitrite-nitrate free bacon
a cup mix veggies cooked in 1 tbs of coconut oil

Salad from the freshii store at the office with kale, spinarch, 1/2 cup turkey, 1/4 avocado, 1/4 apple olive oil and balsamic vinegar
green tea

hamburger with lettuce wrap, oignons, 1/2 avocado
1 fruit

after work out snack
Usually none

Please give me you thoughts on this, your guidance is much needed, I want to continue to see great results, I 've noticed so much improvement while I am playing with the kids I don't want it to stop... :)

Miscellaneous / Allergies Free!!!
« on: May 01, 2013, 03:43:29 PM »
I am not sure if I post in the right section but please let me know if I am wrong :)

I am so happy!!!

For as long as I can remember, I always had seasonal allergies from the time the snow was melting until the ground was covered with snow again... I've started my paleo journey about 6 weeks ago and always been good except on my kids birthday 2 weeks ago... Since I've started spring have sprung and the leafs are coming out on the trees and guess what? Not even one symptom of allergies... What a relief!!!

I would continue my paleo journey even if it was only for this benefit, but you see so many good things have happened to  me since I've started that I will never go back to my old bad habits... I've lost 20 pounds so far, my mental health is so much better, I was having severe depression symptoms, I sleep like a baby and oh my the energy is incredible...

I feel fantastic and simply wanted to share it with all of you!

Have a wonderful day  ;D

Exercises / Exercises to do after shoulder subluxation
« on: April 26, 2013, 06:31:00 AM »
Hi everyone,

I have a shoulder subluxation recurring problem, last night while doing my routine my right shoulder popped out, I had a new set of heavier weight to push myself further in my training but I guess that the shoulder did not like it..  :'(

So now I have to wear that sling for a few days and then I will be ready to jump into training again, but I am not sure of what I should do while my shoulder is at rest and what exercises I should do to bring my shoulder back to full recovery...

Any ideas?

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi everyone,

I've been full paleo for 6 weeks now, my kids are gradually transitioning, everyone is doing great and I am really happy with our progress.

Today my son is turning 9 and my little girl is turning 8, great news in fact as they are growing fast and very smart and good, BUT what's a birthday without a cake?

What do you do for your kids birthday?
