I was really struggling with low energy and anxiety until I started takings b vitamin complex, you can't overdose. I noticed a change immediately. I think eating grains has damaged my intestines so much I was deficient in proper vitamins. Also eating fats for the transition helps me. I'm not concerned about the fats. Walnuts have omega 3 fats and I noticed I would  feel calmed after I ate some.

Thanks everyone, black coffee it is. :) I ate dried fruit and nuts insteadof potato chips today, don't really even want them.  ;D

Anything with gluten in it will make me tired. A special kind of tired that only gluten provides. Check to see if that cereal has wheat, barley, oats, or rye. Also, I started taking a B vitamin complex and my energy changed a lot. I think I was deficient because things like caffeine and sugars (alcohol of course) will leech your body of that particular vitamin. If your intestine is damaged from gluten you could have problems absorbing the vitamin. Grains have really messed me up.

Diet and nutrition / Advice for the newbie??

I bought the Paleo Diet book by Loren Cordain. I've been stuck in my weight (roly poly 230 pounds) for years now, and some kind of crazy whacked blood sugar binges. I have gone gluten free and that helped with fatigue and bloating, but when I fall off of a good meal plan, I FALL OFF!

I like the paleo diet because it has a lot of fats, I made it one entire day without any cheating and felt pretty good. I don't think I can do an 'open meal,' because I will eat good foods with meat and vegetables all day, and nuts, but if I have one bag of potato chips I can't stop craving them and usually turns into an awful binge. I am going to the doctor next week to see if there's something wrong. Probably is, prediabetes?

What I want to do is just dive in and go completely paleo, even give up my wonderful coffee...wah! I am afraid of the withdrawal symptoms. I have dramatically changed my diet in the past with good results, I was fit for years! My personal trainer doesn't recommend such a drastic change, but I see so many drawbacks with 'open meals.' Dairy makes me bloated and sluggish, gluten makes me tired and my system has flushed itself in reaction to it (explosive watery diarrhea, and undigested food, took weeks to get back to normal) potato chips send me into binges, candy makes me feel jacked up, I even tried two squares of dark chocolate daily only to eat the whole bar after 3 days...I just don't see myself having these 'open meals,' with things I enjoy eating, without bad results! Just a**!

Can you recommend anything that you did that got you over the hump? I need help. Argh! How long until you felt fabulous, ie, how long do I have to 'suffer' fighting through the cravings? Also, has anyone given up caffeine and that helped them dramatically? I don't drink a lot of it anymore but I have a suspicion it doesn't help my eating. Forget diet soda too, I feel hungry after I have just one can, even if I've just eaten 1000 calories of paleo foods.

I'm frustrated, I'm single, I hate that we have a vending machine at my sedentary job, I hate that my coworkers would rather get stomach surgery (NOT KIDDING, like 10 or more people have gotten gastric bypass) rather than get rid of the vending machine, I feel like crap, and temptation is so overwhelming sometimes. Thanks for your responses.
