I love bacon, but am trying to stay away from pork for personal reasons... some of the stores here sell beef bacon which is better tasting than pork imo, but it still has the salt and nitrates, I thought about soaking it to remove the salt, but that wouldn't do anything for the nitrates would it? Also I may speak to my butcher about ordering it from him, anyone know what part of the animal beef bacon comes from? lol

It wasn't my intention, just busy at church planning an event, they bought chinese food, I ate it... it snowballed from there, the event was an Italian dinner with tons of desserts, I ate it all... I figured if I was gonna mess up, I may as well go all out. I don't know why we sabotage ourselves, but we seem to do it in lots of areas, not just food. All the best Renta, get back up, wipe yourself off and keep moving forward, it's really all you can do.

Diet and nutrition / Re: So... what was the damage on Thanksgiving?
« on: November 28, 2010, 06:06:21 AM »
I had cornish hen, well oiled and stuffed with orange peel (Amazing) Baby carrots, beets, baked pineapple and pumpkin pie w/ no shell. My cheats... a little salt on the hen, honey in the pineapple and pie. It was an awesome first Paleo Thanksgiving.

Diet and nutrition / Glucose for the brain
« on: November 24, 2010, 12:58:28 PM »
Okay, I need help. My kids are worried about my new "diet". They are concerned I am not getting enough glucose for my brain (lol). Also because I smoke, and have added higher fatty meat, they are concerned about my cholesterol, and blood pressure. I had my blood pressure taken recently and that has not changed. They won't accept opinion, cause I raised them right... so please provide facts. Thanks for any help guys.

I had a couple of bad leg cramps... that has never happened before. I remembered they can be caused by too much sodium, or not enough potassium. With the amount of eggs and bananas I eat I didn't think that was it. I didn't know where the sodium was coming from, because I don't add any... ever. Then it dawned on me, I'd been eating a lot of bacon. I know it's processed, but it's such a good source of fat, and it's so good with onions and mushrooms. lol I haven't had bacon since. =(  I also haven't had leg cramps.

If voting actually made a difference THEY'd make it illegal...

;)

True Eric, but if I don't vote I don't have the right to complain. lol

Tricia, welcome! I'm glad you found this forum too. The people are great as is the info. I wouldn't worry so much, I NEVER thought I could give up dairy, what no cheese... really? I find I don't miss it at all. Eat a huge fatty steak with a fried egg on top, some of your favorite paleo friendly veggies... Life is Good!!! Don't forget to drink a butt ton of water :D

Be very careful with melatonin. It's a hormone. People shouldn't be taking it artificially. Especially women, as it can cause menstrual issues.

What kinds of issues?

There is an OTC supplement called Melatonin, people use it for jet lag and insomnia. That may help, but if gave me God awful intense nightmares. lol
