Hi, I just started up with my Instagram account, posting pics of my food whenever I can. I find it's really helping with my motivation and progress.

Anyone else have an Instagram account? Follow me if you like, paleochar89 :-)

Diet and nutrition / Just wanted to check I'm doing this right?!
« on: November 19, 2013, 02:57:48 PM »
I'm new to Paleo, and I've been sticking to Paleo pretty strictly. I've been tracking what I eat on MyFittnessPal, purely out of interest, rather than to track calories or anything.

Roughly, what should my percentages me re: fats, proteins & carbs?

According to MyFitnessPal, yesterday my percentages were 25% carbs, 45% fat, 30% protein. And I ate 52g of carbs, 42g fat, 62g of protein. And today, 15% carbs, 62% fat, 23% protein. And 51g of carbs, 94g fat, 79% protein.

And these were both pretty regular days for me since I started Paleo. Should the biggest percentage of my diet be made up of fat?! It scared me a bit when I saw it lol!

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I'm doing it right!! I've put what I actually ate in the food journals section if anyone was interested in what I actually ate.

Thanks in advance :-)

Introductions / Any other Brits?!
« on: November 17, 2013, 04:11:40 PM »
From what I can gather, most of you on here are from the US, and I was just wondering if there were any other Brits on here?! I was also wondering how it was turning Paleo in the US compared to in the UK.

For example, I'd never heard of Spaghetti Squash before, I've been looking, and can't seem to find it here in the UK, or does it just have a different name?

Diet and nutrition / Breakfast Ideas
« on: November 17, 2013, 04:07:38 PM »
I've only been Paleo minded for about a week now, and I'm absolutely loving it! The food and the way it makes me feel :-)

However, I feel like I'm starting to have a bit of an issue with breakfasts!

I can't eat eggs everyday, putting it simply (without sounding crude!) I would never go to the toilet!! And apart from eggs, all I keep getting from other websites I've been on, is for me to eat yesterdays leftovers.

I know this is probably just something I've got to get used to, but breakfast is my only stumbling block thus far! I've found I've been tempted to / opting to skip breakfast because I'm so uninspired to eat anything Paleo friendly in the mornings that isn't fruit and nuts. I'm trying to lose weight, so I know that's not the best idea.

I know eating meat, fish and veggies for breakfast is something I need to get used to, but to start with I don't always have leftovers, and I was just wondering if anyone had any beginner friendly breakfast ideas that weren't just eggs?!

Thanks in advance!

Diet and nutrition / Ghee & Oils
« on: November 16, 2013, 03:31:26 AM »
Pre-Paleo I cooked with olive oil, which is what I've continued to do since I started eating Paleo, which I believe (if I have it right) is ok, but not the best. I think most of you cook with animal fat, is this the best thing to cook with?

I'm not sure how I feel about cooking with animal fat, maybe it's something I'll work up to, but I'm interested in cooking in other things that are good & Paleo friendly!

So, I've read on some Paleo recipe websites about cooking in ghee, is there some other dairy free ghee that I've never heard of, or are the people on these websites just happy to eat dairy?!

Also, have any of you tried using different oils? I've seen avocado oil, grape seed oil, hazelnut oil, pumpkin oil, rapeseed oil, sesame oil and walnut oil. Are any of these ok to use? Are they tasteless? I'm planning on buying some coconut oil, but does it taste coconutty?!

Sorry for all the questions!! Thanks in advance!

Food Journals / EllaBellaRose's Food Journal

I plan on documenting what I eat on a daily basis, more for myself than anything else. I know my diet isn't exactly perfect or to the letter yet, but I've only just started and I massively welcome any input or advise!!

Tuesday 12th November (The start of Paleo Diet)

Breakfast - Smoothie made with mixed frozen berries, fresh banana and almond milk.

Lunch - 3 egg omelette with mushrooms, spring onion, salmon and watercress.

Snack - Handful of almonds & an apple.

Dinner - Roasted spicy cumin chicken breast, peppers and aubergine with sweet potato smash.

I tried to post pictures, but it said the files were too big!!

Diet and nutrition / Paleo Granola (?)
« on: November 15, 2013, 12:58:10 PM »
Ok, so pre-paleo I would usually have a bowl of muesli or granola with either soy milk or yoghurt, along with fruit. I can't see myself massively missing eating muesli (it's not exactly earth shattering!!) however, I really think I'm going to get hugely bored of eating so many eggs for breakfast!!

So, I found this recipe and I'm thinking of making it, but what do you guys think? Not "truly paleo "? Too much sugar? Should I avoid or just eat once in a while?

Thanks in advance!!

Introductions / New here :-)
« on: November 15, 2013, 12:43:47 PM »
Hi everyone,

I've been lurking for the last week or so, and thought I'd introduce myself :-)

I started eating a mainly Paleo diet on Tuesday (apart from a teeny tiny bit of dairy once, which I plan to eventually completely phase out) and I have to say I'm feeling great for it already! I feel like I'm really looking after myself, not felt overly hungry at any point (which I often do on other "diets") and haven't really once missed bread & pasta .... though I'm sure that will come!!

I had my little girl 10 months ago, and I quite quickly got back to my pre-prgancy body; except I wasn't really happy with my body before I had my little girl! So, I'm starting this not just to lose weight, but to also to really look after & take care of myself & my body.

I have a few questions that I'll probably ask along the way, and I plan on posting what I eat in the food journals section. I openly welcome any tips, advise and support any of you may have!

Thanks! Look forward to hearing from you all :-)
